The plan is to build upon the underlying belief that all crime victims should have access to high quality, culturally appropriate, victim-centered services. To achieve this, it was necessary to support and facilitate the development of services that are accessible, effective, and victim-centered for all crime victims. 

What our past has taught us, the worst day of my life was February 25. At 5:17 PM, my son Detraio Whorton was murdered.  My life radically changed that day, as did the way I saw my relationships, family, and friends, as well as my health. Besides, my work. I was undergoing a shift, but I didn't really get it. In truth, I was already dead and completely unaware of it. For me, the grieving process was quite difficult. I had a very difficult time accepting the loss; it felt like a dream. I was unable to when everyone returned to their lives following the burial because I lacked a clear understanding. Tra was physically gone, yet I never lost touch with him.

I attempted suicide on Mother's Day 2021 because I was grieving so much and longed for him. I switched off my phone. My door was practically kicked in by two of my closest pals the next thing I knew. Sheree, we won't let you give up like this, the man continued. They followed me. 

After a few days, I woke up one morning to find Tra's shadow there. I attempted to set up in my bed but was unable to do so. I attempted to call to him, but I was unsuccessful.

"Mom, you've got to help," he pleaded. Help who Tra? I said as I turned to face him. Mom, you need to assist those like you, he said. I wasn't sure what that meant at first. Yet it persisted, and when I tried to return to work, I was unable to do so because I felt as though God was tugging at me, telling me that it was time to assist the others. Hence, I started asking about and spoke to people who ran non-profit organizations. I then used all I had learned and took a leap of faith, which is how What About Us came to be.
